The #1 mistake people make in goal-setting
Goals without reflection is like shooting in the dark and hoping you'd hit bull's eye.
Hello dear friend,
Can I share something I used to get wrong all the time?
I’d set ambitious goals every January, only to realize a few months later that they weren’t aligned with what I actually wanted. I didn’t take time to reflect first.
Reflection is such an underrated part of the process. It helps you figure out what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what really matters to you. Without it, setting goals can feel like throwing darts in the dark.
Here’s a quick exercise you can try:
If you keep going at your current pace, how long will it take you to reach your goal?
This question is my favorite because it helps me look at my goals and skills in terms of the time it would take me to achieve more. It’s the first step towards laying out plans for the next year.
This question is supposed to be another grounding experience. Think objectively and write your answer in terms of the years, months, or weeks you think it will take you to be where you want to be.
If you want to take your yearly reflection to the next level, join me for my Annual Review Workshop on Dec 23. I’ll guide you through a step-by-step process to reflect on 2024 and set goals that stick for 2025.
Here’s to creating a future that feels truly yours!
Best,
Anangsha
